The scent of roasted Chestnuts spreads through towns and villages of Mallorca once again this year and we all discover once more the delights of a food that is equally good in sweet and savory dishes. In Spain, about 11,600 tonnes of chestnuts are harvested every year and many popular sayingsrefer to the fruit of the chestnut…one to remember: ‘there is no better charm than a stolen chestnut’. Christmas would not be Christmas in Spain without turrones, nougat made with toasted sweet almonds, which is served at the end of a meal with coffee or cava.
