> Born in Palma in 1972, with Swiss origins, Rif Spahni used to draw and write stories as a child – inevitably stepping into photography as time went by. He believes an image has the power to signify a lot of different things depending on the context and the person looking at it, thus sending out an exclusive and personal message. “Photography means motivation, more than inspiration. It is a set of tools used to reveal inner feelings, thoughts and worries in a very up close and personal manner. It’s like telling a story by using a different method than literature.” In 2005 Rif started an original and very personal project on the ‘exile in the world’. Since then, he travels to the Saharan camps of the Algerian desert, where he discovered a village in exile for more than 30 years. The strength of the Saharan people gave him the inspiration to continue the project. He wanted to show his admiration towards refugees by depicting absolute respect in every single image taken of the people and situations. He accurately photographed the landscapes where camps are settled, the climate roughness, the distressed scene and beyond all, the Saharan refugee. He approached the project in the most natural and sincere way by using a simple Pin Hole camera for the shooting – a wooden box without any technology… just his own time and desire. A moving work of art, to be seen! Permanent exhibition at C/ Soler 21A, Santa Catalina, 971 458 083
