> India has conserved its deep sacred feeling and tradition through history and is known as a privileged place for spiritual gurus. Amma (mother) is a lady of 53 years, born from a fisherman family in a small village in the Kerala state of South India. From a very early age she chose to dedicate her life to mysticism and believes in the “All Universal” and that “when the left hand feels pain the right hand comes to the rescue”. This belief allows her to distinguish between two kinds of poverty – the material and the spiritual – with spiritual being of greater importance and born from the lack of compassion. Amma, the Indian saint travels worldwide to greet her followers with a well defined mission: to give a dharsam (hug) and comfort them. Admirers think she represents the reincarnation of the holy mother and she is recognized for having restored one of the oldest and most sacred ceremonies of Indian heritage. Amma has founded the humanitarian organizations “Mata Amritanandamayi Math” and “Mata Amritanandamayi Mission Trust”, which are dedicated to spreading charity and love around the world through helping victims of natural disasters.
